But before going more in depth, a short introduction is in order. I am spending two and a half months in Kenya this summer, first in Nairobi and then in a town in western Kenya, called Kakamega. The first week that I will be in the country, I'll be staying with the Holy Cross community in Nairobi. After that, I'll be taking either a 8 hour bus ride or a 45 minute plane ride to Kakamega, where I'll be spending the rest of my time.
Kakamega is about 250km (155miles) northwest of Nairobi and about 30km (18miles) from Lake Victoria.
(Kind of hard to see the red circles...)
When in Kakamega, I'll be working with an organization called the African Canadian Continuing Education Society doing AIDS education. I'll be living with a host family while there too! The organization that I'm going with that is setting all of this up is called the Foundation For Sustainable Development.
As far as blogging goes, I'm going to try and blog as much as possible. However, judging by the way things are going so far, it might be that several posts posted at one time (at least once or twice a week).
For those who want to contact me (Aunts - I'm looking at you! :D) while I'm here, email or Facebook is going to be the most reliable way to do that. I have a phone but I'm planning to only use it during emergencies.
But for now, I am ending my first introduction blog post. I'll be posting soon about my first 2 days in Nairobi soon!
Hakuna matata my friends!
